The 10 Core Values of Our Community

Mayo,

As our community continues to grow each day, it’s important for us to clarify our core values and principles.

The clearer we are on our driving values, the better we can collectively support one another and make a unique contribution to the world.

Let’s get started.

Who are we and what do we stand for?

1. We believe that real change first begins with us.

Most people blame others and fail to take responsibility for the lack of progress in their lives. Not us.

We understand that the current state of our life is simply a reflection of our mindset and decisions.

We take full responsibility for everything, both the good and the bad.

We live proactively with clear intentions, not reactively as victims.

Most importantly, we influence those around us to change by first leading by example.

2. We believe that taking good care of our health is non-negotiable.

We believe that healthy living is not a one-off event. It’s a lifestyle.

We understand that good health is the engine that will drive us to achieve extraordinary results in work and life. And so, we ensure to eat healthy, exercise regularly and take adequate time out of work to recharge.

3. We believe in complete integrity and authenticity in work, business and life.

We believe in transparency, fairness and honesty, in our interactions with others.

We steer clear of manipulative strategies and unethical financial methods.

We are authentic. We’re not afraid to let the world know who we are and what we stand for….

“We think differently and are crazy enough to believe that we can change the world for the better”.

4. We believe that there is no shortcut to success in life.

We understand that success is simply the by-product of quality decisions made over several years.

Each day, we focus on laying one small brick the best we can, until it becomes the big castle we dream of.

Through deliberately practice, we strive to achieve mastery in our chosen fields.

Whilst others show off their success, we keep our head low, work hard and delay gratification.

5. We choose to be professionals, and not amateurs in what we do.

In Steven Pressfields’ book, The War of Art , he outlines the difference between amateurs who make little headway in their work versus the professionals who create great work.

Here’s a quick snippet…

“The amateur plays for fun. The professional plays for keeps.

To the amateur, the game is his avocation. To the pro it’s his vocation.

The amateur plays part-time, the professional full-time.

The amateur is a weekend warrior. The professional is there seven days a week.”

A professional doesn’t rely on motivation or wait for the perfect conditions to ‘feel good’ before taking action.

A professional shows up everyday and gets things done, come rain or shine, because it’s who they are.

Whatever we commit to do, we show up as professionals.

6. We believe in continuous improvement in all areas of our life.

We believe there is always room for improvement, and we seek those 1% gains that will have a significant impact on our lives.

We continuously seek to push ourselves outside our comfort zone, challenging our assumptions and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

By becoming better people, we believe those around us will also rise to a new level of greatness.

7. We believe in expressing daily gratitude.

We celebrate progress, no matter how little.

Each day, we take time off to reflect on our lives and express gratitude for what we’ve achieved so far.

We understand that our time on earth is limited, and so we are grateful for being alive today.

8. We believe in embracing failure and imperfection.

We understand that failure is a prerequisite for success. We deliberately experiment and try new things that lead to failure.

We don’t seek the perfect start, we only seek to get started.

We keep our eyes on the process, not the outcome. What other people think about us is none of our business.

9. We believe in innovation.

We don’t copy what others do. We lead the way with original ideas and innovation.

We never settle for the mainstream practices, and always ask ourselves if there’s a new way to solve familiar problems.

Most importantly, we are brave enough to act on new ideas that may seem crazy to others.

10. We believe in giving back to the less privileged.

We understand that the less privileged—uneducated children, homeless and so on— do not have the capacity to achieve their potential.

In response, we choose to give back not only our money, but our time and energy.

We believe that ultimately, the wealth we accumulate in our lifetime will be given back to help those in need.

These are the 10 core values of our community.
